Wales Tourism: Experience History, Ancient, Medieval, And Modern

Wales is a fascinating country.

Although many English display a sense of superiority over this country and its people, it is a beautiful country with an interesting history. It can all be experienced by a visit to the lower west side of England.

Wales is a country of its own. It has a rich history dating back thousands of years. In medieval times the country was taken by the British and became a part of that nation in the 1500s. Through the centuries some of their heritage and culture diminished, but a revival in recent history has more people speaking Welch than in years past.

One of the main things that attract Wales tourism is the beautiful landscape. There is an abundance of beautiful places to see and activities to do outdoors. Some of these are numbered among the “Seven Wonders of Wales”, a list compiled in the 18th century. All of these are located in northern Wales.

First we have Snowdon which is the highest mountain in the country. The Gresford bells located in the All Saints Church are also a major attraction. The historic Llangollen Bridge was built over the River Dee in 1347. The pilgrimage site of St. Winefride’s Well at Holywell in Flintshire, the ancient yew trees in Overton and Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall, which is very tall, make up the seven wonders.

All of the seven wonders are worth a visit from tourists to Wales. Besides these there are three national parks.

These each are beautiful and provide the most picturesque backdrop for such activities as hill walking, hiking and climbing, canoeing and kayaking, and hang gliding. Extreme sports are also picking up popularity here.

Some of the interesting historical things to see and learn about are the ancient history of the place and you can even see Neolithic tombs. There are plenty of other historical sites to visit from more recent history.

The Museum of Welch Life is a major attraction and displays focus much on industrial Wales. During the industrial revolution Wales change dramatically and the history of this change is documented in the museum. Other historic sites of interest are the breathtaking castles that were built many centuries ago, such as Caernarfon and Caerphilly .

Wales tourism is on the rise. This modern Celtic nation has much to offer visitors from other countries. As tourism increases and an interest is shown in the history, culture, customs and language of the Welch, these things will continue to be restored, making Wales a country with a history that can be seen wherever you go.

If you are interested in beautiful views and outdoor wonders or if you like castles and learning about history and the way a country evolves over time Wales tourism will give you everything you want in a vacation!
